After deciding to take formal lessons from mentor and teacher Wesley Matsuda, Ryan made the move to Los Angeles in 2008. He enrolled at the Musicians Institute and also took on private studies with Pop/Jazz guitarist Pathik Desai and Blues/Rock guitarist Kenny Echizen.
